SPLASH - Special Play & Leisure After School Hours – was established in 2000 to address a gaping gap in provision for children with disabilities and their families within the Gateshead Jewish Community. We have since expanded drastically and continually improved our services to meet the growing need.
Splash adopts a holistic approach, supporting children with special needs as well as their siblings and parents.
Weekly therapeutic sport/leisure activities for CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS during after-school hours:
These groups activities also offer the socially-isolated children the opportunity to be part of a team, learn social skills, improve their communication skills, and build lasting friendships.
Siblings play an integral role in the daily lives of children with disabilities, often having extra responsibilities at home due to added demands on their parents. The complex needs of the special sibling becomes a primary focus, resulting in a lack of adequate individual attention to other members of the family. To address this SPLASH runs Siblings Club: Periodic family trips and activities as well as small focus-groups, with support and encouragement gained from peers in similar situations. A fantastic fun-filled family programme runs over the winter holidays.
SPLASH offers a parent-support-group offering advice, peer support and lectures from specialists, as well as pampering events to help them recharge and give them some time out. In addition, Splash provides 100’s of hours of invaluable respite for parents and families over Shabbosos, Yomim Tovim and School Holidays.
Our services have proven to be a lifesaver to our special families.
With your support we can continue to provide our vital services.
